On March 26th, it was learned from Baofeng Energy that the world's largest coal to ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) project - Baofeng Energy's annual production of 250000 tons of EVA project - has been operating steadily since early February. Currently, the production load has increased to 90.4%, achieving stable operation. Baofeng Energy has thus set a precedent in the industry of using coal instead of oil to produce EVA, connecting the entire industry chain and product chain of coal based polyolefins.

Baofeng Energy Coal to Olefin Plant

It is reported that the project uses coal as raw material, and through pressurized gasification, transformation, and purification of fine coal, uses low-pressure methanol synthesis technology to produce MTO grade methanol. Then, through DMTO unit and olefin separation, polymer grade ethylene and propylene are produced, and polymer grade ethylene and vinyl acetate are copolymerized to produce EVA.

Industry experts say that Baofeng Energy's coal to EVA products have a significant advantage in single ton cost compared to oil to EVA products. One reason is due to advanced technology. The project adopts the BASELL high-pressure tubular process technology from Germany, and the technical and economic indicators in the process package design have reached the international advanced level, with the advantages of high yield and low energy consumption of the equipment. Secondly, it is because the industrial chain is well-developed. The project has built an annual production of 100000 tons of vinyl acetate project, forming a complete raw material supply guarantee system.

According to Liu Yuanguan, President of Baofeng Energy, the current import dependence of high-end products such as EVA photovoltaic materials and hot melt adhesives in China is close to 40%. Baofeng Energy's 250000 ton coal to EVA project accounts for 9.26% of the total EVA production capacity in China. The production of this project can effectively fill the import gap of high-end products such as EVA in China, injecting new strong momentum to ensure national energy security.

He stated that the Baofeng Energy EVA project has high-end products, a wide range of categories, and a wide range of applications. It can produce 22 grades and achieve the ability to switch between different grades of products on one production line. Among them, 11 grades of products have a VA content of up to 30%, high purity, good flexibility, ductility, transparency, film-forming ability, stability, and insulation properties. They are mainly used in photovoltaic film, foaming, hot melt adhesive and other fields, and can fully cover the market's diversified demand for high-end EVA materials.

Since the start of construction of the Baofeng Energy EVA project, the construction speed has also broken multiple industry records, among which the commissioning of key equipment such as the primary and secondary compressors has set the fastest records in the industry; The hydraulic oil system only took 25 days to pass the oil transportation, shortening the construction period by more than 20 days compared to similar projects; The high-pressure pipeline of the high-pressure circulating gas heat exchanger and secondary compressor system was purged in only 17 days, which shortened the construction period by more than 43 days compared to similar projects. The construction period was only 40 months, and all EVA1803 products currently produced are qualified.
