On February 19th, Singapore's Minister for Transport and Finance Second Minister, Chua Eng Guan, announced at the Changi Aviation Summit that Singapore will introduce a sustainable aviation fuel tax starting from 2026. This measure is aimed at achieving the medium- and long-term emission reduction targets outlined in Singapore's sustainable aviation hub blueprint, and promoting the reduction of carbon emissions in both the domestic and international aviation sectors.

Starting from 2026, all flights departing from Singapore must use more environmentally friendly sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The initial goal is to increase the usage of SAF to 1% of the total fuel, and by 2030, the proportion should reach 3% to 5%. At the same time, passengers will also need to pay a sustainable aviation fuel tax when purchasing tickets.

The implementation of this policy will help promote the green transformation of the aviation industry, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve the carbon reduction goals set by the Singaporean government. Moreover, it will also encourage airlines and passengers to pay more attention to environmental issues and enhance their awareness and use of sustainable aviation fuels.
